Our Songwriters' Showcases are designed to promote creative development through perromance, recording and community feedback. Simply put, we want to raise the bar on the craft of songwriting.
Each Showcase is a live concert, a demo recording session and a songwriting workshop -- combined. You perform your music in our recording studio, in front of an audience fo other songwriters and music lovers. We record your performance and compile feedback from the other participants. You leave with your songs on CD and a written evaluation to help you improve your writing.
We're currently registering for our Summer season - you can find a schedule and registration info here.
Here are the basic rules: a maximum of 9 songwriters perform 2 songs for a live audience in our recording studio. Only one voice and one instrument are permitted, and we ask that you don't explain your music - let the songs speak for themselves. We collect anonymous feedback from every writer about every song, and we record the show. You go home with a CD of your performance to use in any way you like. A week later, we e-mail you a written report compiling feedback and advice of other writers so you can improve your music.
The evening ends with a half-hour performance from a Featured Writer. This set is more fleshed out and may include additional musicians. The songwriter with the best feedback each month becomes next month's featured writer. In September, one Featured Writer will win a face-to-face consultation with a creative director from a major publishing company.
